Most of Thai Phuan communities in Singburi have been living by the Chao Phraya River, very near three temples. And one of the three temple is Wat Utama Phichai.

During the reign of King Rama the 3rd, Thai Phuan from Laos migrated to Thailand. They took boats along the river until they passed Wat Utama Phichai. At that time, some of their boats were wrecked, so they decided to settle in, while the other people moved to Wat Kudithong and Wat Phokaphiwat. However, Thai Phuan live not only in Singburi but also in other provinces in Thailand.

When it comes to their traditions, I think it is what you should experience once in your life. I still remember the event I had a chance to observe took place more than 2 years ago. - that event is Kam Fa, held on January 27, 2020 at Wat Kudithong.

I saw a small parade of Thai Phuan. All of them wearing traditional clothes carried traditional food from the temple gate to a big field, where visitors and officials gathered. Of course, It always fascinates me and I hope to join them next time.

Kam Fa tradition is usually held every year to worship the deities of the sky, who control the rain to fall seasonally as their beliefs. Another tradition is Kuan Khao Thip tradition, that is held once a year in December - Thai Phuan in white dress will mix young rice and nine ingredients in a very big pan, and then stir all of the ingredients with spatual until well combined that takes about 4-6 hours. And monks will chant mantras during the ritual.

You might get bored after reading the long story of Thai Phuan, please don't leave me. I'm going to take you guys to see beautiful structures in the temple. Let's go.

In my opinion, the magnet attracting tourists to the temple is a group of white stupas. The white stupas reflect the charming of Thai architecture - each stupa was built in different designs. Near the stupa is a small white building (viharn), where some Buddha statues are enshrined inside.

And the other stupa, that stands between the temple wall and the ordination hall, is beautiful also - the stupa with four chambers around its base enshrines broken seated Buddha statues inside.

Walking a little farther, you will find a statue of Hera - only its head left. Hera is a mix of crocodile and naga serpent. It is in the middle of a small pond near the ordination hall.

By the way, if you enjoy travelling in my hometown, there are two more temples nearby - Wat Kudithong and Wat Thep Mongkol.

วัดอุตะมะพิชัย

วัดนี้ตั้งอยู่ ต.บางน้ำเชี่ยว อ.พรหมบุรี สาเหตุที่ชื่อบางน้ำเชี่ยว เพราะกระแสน้ำบรเิวณหน้าวัดไหลแรงมาก ในอดีตมีชาวไทพวนจำนวนมากนั่งเรือผ่านวัดนี้ แล้วเรือแตกที่หน้าวัด บริเวณนี้จึงกลายเป็น ชุมชนชาวไทพวน

เนื่องจากวัดนี้อยู่ติดแม่น้ำ น้ำท่วมได้ง่าย ชาวไทพวนส่วนใหญ่จึงย้ายไปตั้งถิ่นฐานที่ อ.บ้านหมี่ จ.ลพบุรี และอีก 2 กลุ่ม แยกไปตั้งถิ่นฐานใน จ.สิงห์บุรี ที่ วัดกุฎีทอง และ วัดโภคาภิวัฒน์

ปัจจุบันมีชุมชนชาวไทพวน อยู่ 3 แห่ง ใน จ.สิงห์บุรี ซึ่งประเพณีที่น่าสนใจของพวกเขาก็คือ ประเพณีกำฟ้า ที่จัดขึ้นเพื่อบูชาเทพที่รักษาฟากฟ้า เพื่อให้ฝนตกตามฤดูกาล โดยจะจัดงานในวันขึ้น 2 ค่ำ เดือน 3 และภายในงานมีการทำอาหารพื้นบ้าน เช่น ขนมจีน ข้าวจี่ ข้าวหลาม ฯลฯ

อีกประเพณีที่น่าสนใจก็คือ ประเพณีกวนข้าวทิพย์ ซึ่งจะจัดในเดือน ธ.ค. ของทุกปี โดยวันแรก จะมีการกวนข้าวทิพย์ โดยเริ่มประมาณ 9.00 - 16.00 น. ทุกคนสามารถมาช่วยกวนข้าวทิพย์ได้นะคะ ส่วนวันต่อมา จะมีการทำบุญเช้า

กำหนดการกวนข้าวทิพย์ มีดังนี้

1.วัดอุตะมะพิชัย : 9 ธ.ค.

2.วัดกุฎีทอง : 4 ธ.ค.

3.วัดโภคาภิวัฒน์ : วันเสาร์แรก ของเดือน ธ.ค.

สำหรับสิ่งที่น่าสนใจของวัดนี้ คือ เจดีย์โบราณ ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ด้านหน้าอุโบสถ มันโบจริงๆ นะ แล้วมันก็เอียงด้วย หวังว่าจะได้รับการบูรณะก่อนที่จะทรุดลงไปกว่านี้ ส่วนฝั่งตรงข้ามก็จะเป็นวิหารสีขาว นั่นคือ วิหารมหาอุตม์ ซึ่งล้อมรอบด้วยเจดีย์สีขาวสลับทอง รูปทรงสวยงาม มีเจดีย์องค์นึงรูปทรงแปลกดี ภายในมีช่องเล็กๆ มีภาพวาดฝาผนัง และรูปปั้นพระนอน ฤาษี

นอกจากนี้ที่วัดนี้ยังมี ตัวเหรา อีกด้วย ซึ่งตัวเหราก็คือสัตว์ที่ผสมระหว่างพญานาคกับจระเข้ มี 4 ขา เมื่อก่อนที่วัดมีหลายตัว ตอนนี้เหลืออยู่ตัวเดียว (ดูคล้ายกับพญานาคมีขา) ตอนนี้เราจะเห็นแค่ส่วนหัวนะ ซึ่งวางอยู่ในบ่อน้ำเล็กๆ ข้างอุโบสถ

ทั้ง 3 วัดที่เอ่ยมา เราว่าวัดอุตะมะพิชัยน่าเที่ยวที่สุด เพราะวัดอื่นก็ไม่ค่อยมีอะไรมาก แต่ถ้าใครจะไปต่อที่ วัดกุฎีทอง ก็ขับรถไปต่ออีก 1 กม. ก็ถึงค่ะ ส่วน วัดโภคาภิวัฒน์ อยู่คนละฝั่งของถนนสายเอเชีย และอีกวัดที่อยากให้ไปเที่ยวต่อคือ วัดเทพมงคล ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากที่นี่ แค่ 2 กม.

ประวัติหลวงพ่อยา

ท่านเป็นอดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดนี้ และเป็นหมอรักษาคนด้วย ด้วยเหตุนี้ชาวบ้านจึงเรียกท่านว่าหมอยา ท่านเป็นคนสิงห์บุรี เป็นเกจิที่มีวาจาสิทธิ์ ชาวบ้านนับถือท่านมาก

ในอดีตนั้นชาวบ้านเล่าให้ฟัง ขณะที่ท่านอยู่ที่ท่าน้ำกับชาวบ้านคนนึง มีเรือโยงวิ่งผ่าน ซึ่งเรือนั้นมีเสียงเรือดังมาก ท่านพูดกับชาวบ้านคนนั้นว่า "เดี๋ยวจะทำอะไรให้ดู" ทันใดนั้นเรือโยงก็เครื่องยนต์ดับทันที ไปต่อไปไม่ได้ จนกระทั่งหลวงพ่อยา บอกว่า "นานแล้ว ปล่อยเขาไปเนอะ" ทันใดนั้นเรือโยงก็สามารถเคลื่อนออกไปได้อย่างปาฏิหาริย์

นอกจากนี้คุณลุงที่มาดูแลวัดแห่งนี้ ยังเล่าให้ฟังว่า มีหลายครั้งที่ทำงานแล้วติดปัญหา คุณลุงจะบอกหลวงพ่อยา แล้วงานที่ติดขัด หรือของที่หาไม่เจอ ก็จะเจอแบบปาฏิหาริย์
