Wat Pikunthong or Wat Luang Pho Phae. The temple's name "Luang Pho Phae" comes from the former abbot's name. The temple is surrounded by paddy fields, about 25 minutes by car from the town of Singburi.

The major attraction is the big Buddha statue. Its name is Phutthasuwanmongkhon Mahamuni, regarded as the biggest Buddha statue in the posture of giving a blessing in Thailand. The Buddha in the style of Sukhothai made of steel reinfored concrete is decorated with gold mosaic.

The important thing you shouldn't miss is taking photo at its entrance, that provides a great view. You will see the big Buddha statue with clear sky background and beautiful street lights on both sides. I'm absolutely sure, you will love it. And if you can wait until the sun goes down, you will see the most beautiful scenery.

After admiring the big Buddha, you walk along the galleries. The galleries surrounding the big Buddha on four sides contains lots of small Buddha statues in different styles.

After walking for a long time, you may be tired, I suggest feeding fish and sitting for a while in a waterside pavilion in front of the big Buddha. And then you go to worship the giant Hindu Ganesha god, the son of Shiva, known as the god of success and remover of obstacles.

You then cross to the other side of the road - behind the big Buddha statue. You will see the principal Buddha statue and ancient objects in the ordination hall. Not far from the ordination hall is a small building, that enshrines the life-sized statue of Luangpho Phae.

Monk Biography

Luang Pho Phae was born on Jan 1, 1905, in Tha Chang district, Singburi. He passed away on Feb 10, 1999, at the age of 94.

He was adopted at a very young age after his parents died. When he reached at the age 11, he went to Wat Chana Songkhram in Bangkok, to study Khmer language.

He had been there until he was 16 years old, and then went to Wat Pikunthong to be ordained as a novice. However, after the ordination ceremony, he returned to Wat Chana Songkhram to continue his studies.

During that time, he studied so hard that his eyes hurt. So, he decided to learn meditation instead at Wat Pho in Bangkok.

And then he heard that there was a monk who was known to possess magic power - Luang Pu Sri of Wat Phra Prang. So he went to meet LP Sri and asked him to be his master. He then became a close disciple.

Later, he was invited to be the abbot of Wat Pikunthong when only 26 years old. Many buildings in the temple looked very old and also needed to be restored by the time he arrived.

With the help and guidance of LP Sri, the restoration work was finished within a short period of time. At that time, he consecrated his first batch of amulets to raise funds for the restoration.

When it comes to his amulet, the amulet is well-known among foreigners, especially "Phra Somdej Tansam, Pim Rainbow". Did you know Jackie Chan who miraculously survived the accident while filming his movie in Thailand?

During Jackie Chan's visit to Wat Pikunthong, LP Phae gave "Phra Somdej Tansam, Pim Rainbow" to him. He wore the amulet during the filming. There was a scene that required him to perform some dangerous stunts.

He fell from a very high-storey building, but was slightly injured. After the accident, Thai amulet has quickly become known among foreigners. And it's called "Somdej Pim Jackie". Today It's very hard to find the original one in Thailand.

If you're interested in Thai amulet, there is an amulet shop in the temple, situated in front of the big Buddha statue.

วัดพิกุลทอง

หลวงพ่อแพ เขมังกโร อดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัด ชาวบ้านเรียกขานท่านว่า "เทพเจ้าแห่งลุ่มแม่น้ำน้อย" วัดนี้มี พระพุทธรูปปางประทานพร องค์ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย (พระพุทธสุวรรณมงคลมหามุนี) ทำจากคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ประดับด้วยโมเสกทองคำ และรอบๆ ฐานองค์พระ เป็นวิหารคดซึ่งประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปปางต่างๆ

วัดนี้ตั้งอยู่กลางทุ่งนา บรรยากาศค่อนข้างเย็นสบาย โดยเฉพาะในช่วงหน้าหนาวและหน้าฝน จะเห็นต้นข้าวเขียวชอุ่มตลอดทาง และด้านหน้าพระพุทธรูปปางประทานพร จะมีพระพิฆเนศองค์ใหญ่อยู่ทางด้านซ้ายมือ ส่วนทางด้านขวาจะมีพระสังกัจจายนะ

ส่วนถนนที่วิ่งตรงมายังด้านหน้าพระพุทธรูปขนาดใหญ่ จะประดับด้วยโคมไฟตลอด 2 ข้างทาง ทำให้วัดดูโดดเด่นมาก โดยเฉพาะในยามค่ำคืน แสงไฟทำให้บรรยากาศที่นี่งดงามมากจริงๆ

วัดถูกแบ่งเป็น 2 ส่วน โดยมีถนนคั่นกลาง

1.ส่วนที่มีพระพุทธรูปปางประทานพร

บริเวณนี้ค่อนข้างร่มรื่น มีร้านขายของกินตามจุดต่างๆ บริเวณด้านหน้าองค์พระพุทธรูป จะมีร้านให้เช่าพระ และร้านขายอาหารปลา เมื่อเดินผ่านสระน้ำขนาดใหญ่ จะพบพระพิฆเนศและพระสังกัจจายนะ ซึ่งนักท่องเที่ยวส่วนใหญ่ชอบถ่ายรูปบริเวณนี้

2.ด้านหลังพระพุทธรูปปางประทานพร

เมื่อข้ามถนนไปอีกฝั่ง ก็จะเห็นที่จอดรถติดกับร้านขายของฝาก ส่วนใหญ่เป็นของกิน เช่น ปลาตากแห้ง ขนมต่างๆ และเมื่อเดินผ่านประตูรั้วไป จะเจอตู้ ATM ของธนาคารออมสิน

บริเวณนี้จะมี พระอุโบสถ ซึ่งภายในประดิษฐานพระประธาน และมีพวกจานชามโบราณแบบของไทยและของจีน เดินมาด้านหลังอุโบสถ จะมีวิหารเล็กๆ ซึ่งประดิษฐาน หุ่นขี้ผึ้งหลวงพ่อแพ ภายในสวยมาก แอร์เย็นฉ่ำเลย

วัตถุมงคล

ก่อนอื่นต้องเล่าก่อนว่า หลวงพ่อแพ ท่านเป็นลูกศิษย์ของหลวงปู่ศรี วัดพระปรางค์ ซึ่งหลวงปู่ศรี ท่านก็ยังเป็นอาจารย์ของหลวงพ่อกวย วัดโฆสิตาราม จ.ชัยนาท ดังนั้นท่านจึงมีความเชี่ยวชาญด้านไสยเวท การปลุกเสกวัตถุมงคล

นอกจากพระพุทรูปขนาดใหญ่ที่ทำให้วัดมีชื่อเสียงแล้ว ยังมีพระเครื่องที่หลวงพ่อแพสร้างไว้ ซึ่งสมัยก่อนชาวต่างชาติแห่เข้ามาประเทศไทยเพื่อเช่าไปบูชามากมาย

หลายคนอาจไม่ทราบว่า พระสมเด็จบางรุ่น ได้ใช้ผงกระดูกผีมาเป็นส่วนผสม โดยท่านเป็นพระเพียงรูปเดียวเท่านั้น ที่หลวงพ่อบุญชู วัดหัวว่าว ให้สูตรผงกระดูกผี

พระเครื่องที่สร้างชื่อเสียงอย่างมากให้กับประเทศไทย คือ พระสมเด็จ พิมพ์ฐานแซม ปี 2517 เป็นรุ่นที่เฉินหลง หรือแจ็กกี้ ชาน ใส่ติดตัวตลอด ขณะที่ถ่ายทำหนังเรื่องนึงในประเทศไทย และรอดตายจากอุบัติเหตุราวปาฏิหาริย์ หลังจากที่เฉินหลงรอดตาย เขายังบินกลับมาที่เมืองไทยหลายครั้ง เพื่อมากราบหลวงพ่อแพ

ส่วนอีกรุ่น คือ พระสมเด็จแพพันปี ปี 2510 เป็นพระสมเด็จพิมพ์เศียรบาทรุ่นแรก ซึ่งหายากมากในตอนนี้ เพราะคนต่างชาติจากสิงคโปร์ ฮ่องกง มาเลเซีย จีน เช่าไปเกือบหมด
