This temple is located in the centre of Singburi, just about 3 km from The City Pillar Shrine, close to the intersection. It isn't far from other temples, so you can combine a visit to Wat Sawang Arom with other temples like Wat Phranon Chaksi and Wat Phikunthong.

The temple was originally called "Wat Bangmon", built in 1856. Unlike other temples you have ever seen because of its unusual museum. The unusual museum contains a large collection of shadow puppets, that is called Nang Yai by Thai people. All the puppets made of buffalo skin.

When you walk through the entrance, you will see a two-story white building on your right. Inside, it displays more than 300 shadow puppets, depicting characters from the Ramakien story.

Ramakien story is famous all over India and Thailand. Its populality can be seen through the wall paintings at Wat Phra Keaw in the Grand Palace and other temples in Thailand.

Today, all of them are kept in good condition and can still be used in performances. Also, it's considered to be the most complete puppet in Thailand.

Over the last few years, the puppet show has decreased in popularity, which can only be seen at temple fairs or special events. However, the man who takes care of the museum still preserves and promotes it in these modern days by teaching how to make a puppet to the young generation.

วัดสว่างอารมณ์

วัดสว่างอารมณ์ สมัยก่อนชาวบ้านเรียก "วัดบางมอญ" อยู่ไม่ไกลจากตัวเมือง และใกล้กับ วัดพระนอนจักรสีห์ ในอดีตเป็นวัดที่มีความสำคัญมากเพราะเป็นแหล่งปั้นพระพุทธรูปที่มีชื่อเสียงของประเทศไทย แต่ปัจจุบันนี้ไม่มีใครทำแล้วนะคะ

นอกจากนี้ยังเป็นที่เก็บรวบรวม "หนังใหญ่" ซึ่งมีมากกว่า 300 ตัว ส่วนใหญ่ยังใช้งานได้ดี ตัวหนังใหญ่ส่วนหนึ่งได้มาจากครูเปียเจ้าของหนังใหญ่ จ.อยุธยา บางส่วนมาจากวัดตึก ครูเปียได้นำหนังใหญ่มาถวายหลวงพ่อเรือง และฝึกหัดการเชิด การพากย์ให้แก่ชาวบ้าน และสืบทอดกันมาจนถึงรุ่นหลัง

ขณะนี้ที่วัดสว่างอารมณ์ จะมีเด็กๆ เข้ามาเรียน "การสร้างตัวหนังใหญ่" กับคุณลุง ในช่วงวันเสาร์ - อาทิตย์ ซึ่งเด็กส่วนใหญ่มาเพื่อหารายได้เสริม ผลงานที่เห็นด้านล่างบางส่วนเป็นของเด็กที่มาทำงานที่นี่ บางส่วนคุณลุงก็ทำเอง เพื่อนๆ สามารถเข้ามาอุดหนุนสินค้าหรือจะสั่งทำตามแบบก็ได้ค่ะ รายได้จากการขายคือค่าแรงของเด็กๆ และเป็นค่าอาหารกลางวันที่เด็กๆ เข้ามาทำงานที่นี่ ทุกคนสามารถถ่ายรูป ถ่ายวีดีโอไปได้ ส่วนท่านใดอยากเข้ามาชมการแสดงให้โทรติดต่อคุณลุงล่วงหน้านะคะ

การสร้างตัวหนังใหญ่ ใช้เวลานาน ประมาณ 7-10 วัน ถ้าขนาดตัวหนังใหญ่มากและมีรายละเอียดซับซ้อนก็ใช้เวลานานกว่านั้น เพราะต้องเอาหนังมาขูด ทำความสะอาดขนออกให้หมด และนำมาตาก มาเจาะ ทาสี ทุกขั้นตอนไม่ง่ายเลย

ตัวหนังใหญ่ที่ทุกคนเห็นด้านล่างนี้ คุณลุงขายนะคะ เป็นหนังใหญ่ที่ ผ่านการทำพิธีปลุกเสกแล้ว ดังนั้นเมื่อได้ไปแล้วให้นำไปบูชา หรือวางบนหิ้งสูงนะคะ

มาช่วยกันอุดหนุนหนังใหญ่ ซึ่งเป็นผลงานของน้องๆ กันนะคะ นอกจากจะช่วยให้น้องๆ มีรายได้แล้ว ยังเป็นการช่วยอนุรักษ์สมบัติของชาติอีกด้วย
